Removing the pieces of the pattern →
So this is how Christmas will be from now on. Not forever mind you. Little by little, year after year. Things are taken away. The pattern we grow up with, of what Christmas is and means;…

Wake Up, Geek Culture. Time to Die  →
I’m not sure I consider myself a nerd or a geek. I never played D&D but loved Star Wars, Monty Python and went to Renaissance Faires in full regalia. But what used to be a geek is now mainstream. Perhaps World of Warcraft is considered geek or fringe, but there’s far too many players for it to be truly that term I knew as a kid. Patton nails it in this article.

A Crappy Christmas Poem
The merry was spent, their presents all claimed, the children now bored with the day that remained Egg Nog flows freely, the parents survived, 6 months of recovery from credit cards fried It’s a Christmas miracle, the blessed lives we lead, Merry Christmas to all, now please pass the mead.

Not to toot my own horn, but *toot*toot*, Wirify →
So I run this little site called web.without.words. It was an ambitious vision of creating content-less web wireframes of popular websites and breaking down the overall “balance” and “hierarchy” of the sites themselves (in the same way you turn a painting upside or view it in a mirror to check for it’s balance and weight). I found myself not having the time I need to...

Do something, don't just have something →
Often it feels that “photographers” are more interested in their equipment (and aquiring “vintage” Polaroids, etc) rather than the images they create. Do something (with what you have), don’t just…

The 11” MacBook Air as a Primary Computer?... →
cameronmoll: I acquired an 11” MacBook Air shortly after its release a couple months ago. It has a 1.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of RAM and a 128 GB flash drive. Though I’ve not tweeted much about it, every time I do, I get questions about its performance, especially from a design and… A timely review for me. As another person who works from home, I’m...

Why the AIGA is wrong, as usual
Once about a decade ago I belonged to what I thought was a necessary, helpful, prestigious organization of profession designers. I thought the group would be a support to the cause, purpose, standards and community of graphic design (and designers). What I found was quite different. When I was in 7th grade my family moved from a country town on the border of Pennsylvania and Delaware to...

Eventually you have to ask "Why?"
With the announcement this morning of Gowalla 3.0 for iPhone (and it’s integration of Foursquare and Facebook Places) has me thinking about “Location Based Services” (LBS) and their teetering success behind their buzz. I first heard of Gowalla (and Foursquare) about a year ago, based on several Twitter posts of users I follow had links to places they were. To me it surmised the...
